A Legacy of Innovation & Quality Since 1926
For nearly a century, NorDan has been at the forefront of window and door innovation, combining Scandinavian craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology.
In 2021, this zero carbon timber-frame house, designed by Peter Smith of Roderick James Architects and built by Beyond Zero Homes, was showcased in Glasgow City Centre as part of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). The entire structure of the house was constructed of timber, including the roof, in order to harness the sequestration of carbon and make sure of the additional benefits timber brings for both environmental and human health. The COP26 House truly showcased what’s possible in sustainable building from existing technologies and materials.
NorDan were delighted to have been selected as a supply partner for the COP26 House project, one of over 20 companies working with Beyond Zero Homes to deliver the finished product in time to be showcased during the conference. Our aluminium-clad StormGuard windows, which are known for their low whole-life carbon and high thermal efficiency, were used along with our balcony doors and HomeGuard entrance doors. Our low embodied carbon credentials, our products’ efficient operational carbon qualities at 0.8 W/m²K, and our dedication to building a better, more sustainable future is why we were chosen to collaborate on this exemplar project.
We are also happy to share the news that the COP26 House has been successfully dismantled, transported, and rebuilt in its new location at Rothiemurchus Estate near Aviemore, thanks to Graeme and Louise Fisher of Rothie Cabins. Here it will be used as a holiday let and long-term lease, becoming part of a development of similar affordable timber homes across the estate.
The cabin’s sustainable ethos runs deep. From its low-impact materials, eco products and recycled glassware, to its dog-friendly garden and firepit, every detail encourages thoughtful living and immersive experiences. Guests can explore nearby walking and cycling trails, visit wildlife hides, or simply relax and stargaze from the mezzanine.
Graeme and Louise Fisher built their own home on Rothiemurchus Estate as part of the community housing initiative at the Old Sawmill Site. They cherish the people, the land and the community surrounding them and have thoughtfully continued the memories of the Collie family, who have previously worked and lived on the site of the Rothie Cabins. This cabin, which has been named ‘Jim’s Cabin’ in legacy of the well known ‘Jim’s Bothy’ to the locals of Rothiemurchus and Aviemore.
The launch of Rothie Cabins marks a meaningful step forward for green tourism in the Highlands. It’s a space that not only welcomes guests but also inspires a deeper appreciation for Scotland’s natural beauty and the importance of protecting it.
By partnering with NorDan, your project will not only benefit from innovative, high-performing windows and doors, but you will also demonstrate your commitment to sustainability and the preservation of our planet’s resources.
