A Coating Tougher Than Nails – Powder Coating

When you’re going about your everyday life and are extremely busy, we know that you don’t want to spend your cherished free time re-painting and touching up your windows because they’ve started to look a bit tatty with age. That’s why when people are picking out their new windows, a top requirement they have is that they must be as low-maintenance as possible.

The good news for NorDan customers is that our Alu-Clad windows are virtually zero-maintenance. This is because our aluminium is treated with a FOX Flash Oxidization Process, which is a rapid anodic oxidization treatment that deposits a layer of oxide on the surface of the aluminium. The process creates billions of microscopic pores, which when the powder coating process is completed, the pores are filled with powder and grips onto the aluminium, creating a much tougher finish for the material.

After the FOX Flash Oxidization Process is complete, the powder coating is then applied to the aluminium. Powder coating is a form of dry coating that is applied to material as a free flowing, dry powder which once cured, creates a hard finish on the aluminium. The coating itself is typically applied electro statically and is then cured under heat and forms an extremely tough, durable skin – which makes our alu-clad windows as low maintenance as they could possible be.

When compared to traditional liquid coating, powder coating provides numerous advantages:
• Powder coating contains no solvents and they do not release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) into the environment.
• Powder coating can provide much thicker coatings than liquid without running or sagging.
• Powder coating can easily offer a wide range of specialty effects, which would be impossible to achieve with other processes.

So if you’re looking for some new windows, why not think about buying NorDan alu-clad windows and give yourself the reassurance that your windows will look as good in the years ahead, as they do when they’ve first been fitted.
