Barking Riverside Project
NorDan UK recently won a new supply contract for this development in East London, which we have been involved with at various other stages since 2017.
Situated along the banks of the River Thames, the Barking Riverside development has been a housing regeneration project in East London comprising of several phases built over many years. The award of contracts for plots 206b and 207a represent the latest step in NorDan’s continued involvement with the project, supplying windows and doors for two previous phases.
Granted planning permission in 2007 and approved in 2016, the project has involved turning the former power station site into a residential development capable of housing 29,000 people. This has been a joint partnership between The Mayor of London and L&Q, with a key consideration being the creation of an environment and infrastructure that will allow links between the local community and the wider area.
Covering 443 acres the development is set to include a total of 10,800 homes, including houses and apartments, as well as 65,000 square metres of commercial floor space and leisure, community and healthcare facilities. Upon completion, Barking Riverside will also be home to 7 new schools and several new green spaces and public squares. It’s safe to say that this is one of the largest ongoing developments of its kind in London and work is set to continue well into next year.
As well as continued work on new phases of housing, 2021 will also see the construction of a new Barking Riverside station as part of a £263 million extension to the London Overground, opening up a vital new transport link to the major working and cultural centres of Central London.
