Great Progress at Silvertown – Brunel Street Works
NorDan are extremely excited to be included in the Silvertown redevelopment – which is our largest order to date. We are supplying 19,500m2 of windows and doors to the Brunel Street Works section of the project.
Silvertown is a district of East London, which in its prime was at the heart of innovation for the nautical engineering industry. Although, following World War 2, the site had become neglected and run down over the years.
That’s why in 2015, a major £3.5 Billion redevelopment project for the area was approved. The development will deliver over 3,000 new homes, office space, and retail and leisure amenities. Once completed, the site hopes to bring 13 million visitors a year from across the country and abroad, providing a £33m-a-year boost to the local economy and adding about £260m to London’s economy.
Main contractor Galliford Try is taking on the Brunel Street Works segment where over the next four years will see the homes built across five distinct blocks, ranging from nine to twenty-six storeys in height. The project is comprised of 30% privately rented homes managed by Fizzy Living, 35% affordable housing (consisting of 172 social rent homes and 171 shared ownership and intermediate rent homes) managed by L&Q, and 35% open market sale homes to be sold by Linden Homes. As well as this, there will be a 152 room Premier Inn Hotel on site. The vast variety of homes will combine with the commercial spaces to create a lively and vibrant new community.
NorDan is supplying Top guided Windows and Top Swing Fully Reversible Windows, which will provide the new residents with practically zero maintenance due to the protection from the added aluminum cladding. This means that they can sit back and enjoy doing what they want to do without having to give their windows a second thought.
Cartwright Pickard and Hunters are designing the redevelopment of Silvertown so that it can return to its original roots of innovation and excitement and NorDan are absolutely thrilled to be a part of such a monumental project.
