Falkirk Council Awards Record Home Improvement Contract

NorDan and Sidey to enhance property energy efficiency and sustainability

Perth based windows company Sidey, has been awarded a contract by Falkirk Council to replace the windows and doors in around 5,500 of its social homes, the largest contract of its kind in Scottish history.

The four year project, which commenced in early January 2022, is part of a wider refurbishment scheme that will eventually update all of Falkirk Council’s housing stock, making the homes more energy efficient and sustainable.

Sidey will be working in partnership with leading windows and doors manufacturer, NorDan UK, to deliver the project. NorDan has been supplying its Scandinavian designed, energy efficient products to UK homes for over 40 years.

Using wood sourced from sustainably managed forests, NorDan manufactures timber framed and aluminium clad windows and doors that undergo a unique finishing process that makes them virtually maintenance free, and offers a minimum lifespan of over 60 years.

NorDan UK Regional Director, Craig Greenwood, said;

“We’re proud to be working with Sidey and Falkirk Council on this project, delivering wide ranging benefits for the client and residents.
“Our products will not only look great, but will be an important part of creating a warm and comfortable environment for the residents whilst also saving them money on their heating bills.
“Social housing customers are increasingly focused on sustainability, therefore NorDan’s low carbon products are ideal for assisting them in meeting their carbon reduction targets. Furthermore, the fact that our products come with a 60 year plus life expectancy and are virtually maintenance free, helps our customers to save money and reduces the whole life cost of refurbishment projects.”

Sidey will be supplying composite entrance doors and where required, FD30 Fire doors, while NorDan UK will deliver a range of glazed products including TopTech Fully Reversible windows and both single and double outward-opening balcony doors.

All of the NorDan products specified will be aluminium clad, with GSB Sea Proof Plus marine grade certification and Secured By Design certification.

Steve Hardy, Sidey Commercial Director has said that,

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and look forward to working with Falkirk Council and their tenants over the next four years.“Our full package of works will vastly improve the living conditions in all of Falkirk Council residences.
“Sidey’s fully certified and accredited in-house manufactured composite and fire doors, coupled with NorDan’s first class product offering, will ensure these properties are safe and secure with Secured by Design accreditations, hugely improved energy efficiency and a longevity which will last for many years to come.”
