NorDan Manchester New Square 01

NorDan Windows Featuring in Manchester New Square

NorDan windows have recently been installed as part of the ongoing development of the Manchester New Square project from Lendlease.

With the development originally commencing over a decade ago, the site was abandoned halfway through following the 2008 recession, before being bought by Urban & Civic in 2014. Initial structural work started on site in 2015 and the project is now on track for a 2020 completion, which will see an important residential and retail hub being created, in the heart of North West Manchester.

Designed by architects Simpson Haugh and Partners, with structural engineering work by RoC Consulting, this project consists of three apartment blocks at 15, 14 and 12 storeys in height. Additionally, there is retail and leisure units at ground level as well as a large central courtyard between the three blocks. At the core of the redevelopment, Simpson Haugh and Partners wanted to create exceptional quality apartments that blend into the historic surroundings of the area, whilst still remaining modern and contemporary.

Off-Site Manufacturing at the Forefront

What makes Manchester New Square particularly interesting is that it has been constructed using off-site manufacturing and that is why NorDan were the perfect supplier for this development. As we own all of our factories, we have complete control over production schedules and we can cope with the tight, demanding schedules that off-site manufacturing requires. Our product also comes as a full set, complete with ironmongery and glass, so that they can be fitted straight into the concrete panels and moved onto site. Having the window come as a whole means that particular instances, such as loss of parts, does not throw of the schedules and construction can run as smoothly as possible with minimal hiccups.

Although, the benefits of NorDan windows continues well into the future and not just during the construction period. NorDan windows are especially low maintenance, so after they are initially fitted, they require minimal upkeep. This means that residents can enjoy the life expectancy of a full sixty years and they can rest assured that their windows will still perform as well in decades to come, as they did once they were first fitted.

Off-Site manufacturing has been a hot topic within the construction industry for many years now and NorDan are thrilled to be included in a project of such stature and innovation, which highlights just how advantageous modular construction can be.

NorDan’s Commercial Director, Phil Husle, was closely involved in this project. You can find out more about this project and more by connecting with him on LinkedIn here.
