Powys County Council Housing Development

One of the first major contracts for NorDan in the Welsh market, the Heol Y Ffynnon project in Brecon will utilise our timber window and door products as part of a £5.1M affordable housing development.

NorDan UK has enjoyed numerous successes in the South West of England, which has been continuously supported through the hard work and dedication of our Exeter office. That is why we are extremely proud that we have expanded our focus towards the Welsh market with our new Business Development Consultant, Laura Cox-Howell.

For the Welsh market, one of the very first major contracts we secured was Heol Y Ffynnon in the town of Brecon. This £5.1M investment is the first affordable housing development for social rent in over forty years from Powys County Council and will consist of 32 dwellings with a vast selection of one, two, three and four-bedroom low carbon homes being built.

For this development, we will be supplying a range of our timber products, including our Topswing Fully Reversible windows, NTech Balcony doors & HomeGuard External front doors to all of the new homes throughout the development.

The area of Brecon, in Wales, is notorious for having substantial rainfall all year round so finding windows and doors that could withstand the cold and wet Welsh weather was crucial for this project. Designed and manufactured to resist the harsh Norwegian winters, NorDan timber products far exceed the British standards for weather performance so they were the ideal solution for Heol Y Ffynnon.

Moreover, Pentan Architects, Hale Construction, and Powys County Council decided that their main focus for this project was to develop zero carbon, energy efficient properties that the tenants could afford but were also be proud to live in. This focus on environmental responsibility is a shared concern with NorDan and as our product range offers both low embodied energy & embodied carbon, this will contribute towards the Council’s goal of creating low carbon homes.

On the relationship that NorDan UK and Hale Construction were able to cultivate together, Andrew Collins, Contracts Manager for Hale Construction had this to say,

“NorDan products appealed to us due to their high spec and certification held by the company. The team at NorDan were able to deliver a fantastic level of service and we liked the fact that after training from the NorDan technical team, we could use our carpenters to complete the installation. They are competitive on price, extremely helpful when it comes to sourcing information and resolving any questions we had. Products were delivered exactly on time and fully scheduled as we required. We were especially pleased that the level of service doesn’t end once the sale is made or indeed once the products are on site. We therefore are pleased to have worked with NorDan on this project and hope this will be the start of a key working relationship.”

The team at NorDan UK is proud to be involved in the project and we look forward to seeing the positive impact it has on the town of Brecon.
