Here at NorDan, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable future which is why we are thrilled to have been a part of the COP26 Zero Carbon House project.

In 2021, this zero carbon timber-frame house, designed by Peter Smith of Roderick James Architects and built by Beyond Zero Homes, was showcased in Glasgow City Centre as part of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26). The entire structure of the house was constructed of timber, including the roof, in order to harness the sequestration of carbon and make sure of the additional benefits timber brings for both environmental and human health. The COP26 House truly showcased what’s possible in sustainable building from existing technologies and materials.

NorDan were delighted to have been selected as a supply partner for the COP26 House project, one of over 20 companies working with Beyond Zero Homes to deliver the finished product in time to be showcased during the conference. Our NTech aluminium-clad StormGuard windows, which are known for their low whole-life carbon and high thermal efficiency, were used along with our balcony doors and HomeGuard entrance doors. Our low embodied carbon credentials, our products’ efficient operational carbon qualities at 0.8 W/m²K, and our dedication to building a better, more sustainable future is why we were chosen to collaborate on this exemplar project.

We are also happy to share the news that the COP26 House has been successfully dismantled, transported, and rebuilt in its new location at Rothiemurchus Estate near Aviemore. Here it will be used as a holiday let and long-term lease, becoming part of a development of similar affordable timber homes across the estate. The COP26 House will continue to stand as an incredible example of green living and what can be made possible with sustainable design and building technologies available today.

By partnering with NorDan, your project will not only benefit from innovative, high-performing windows and doors, but you will also demonstrate your commitment to sustainability and the preservation of our planet’s resources. This is achieved by aligning your values with what we are renowned for - our environmentally friendly approach to production, which is implemented throughout the value chain, from raw materials to transportation.
