Kirsty Gilmour retains Scottish Open Champion title!
Congratulations to NorDan Sponsored Athlete, Kirsty Gilmour who successfully retained the title of Scottish Open Woman’s Champion after beating second seed Line Hojmark Kjaesfeldt at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow at the weekend.
Holding a 20-14 lead in the third, her Danish opponent threatened a dramatic comeback after battling through four Championship points.
However, Gilmour held her nerve to beat the 2015 champion 21-18.
In a post-match interview Kirsty said,
“I’m feeling relieved, tired, happy and emotional, it was good last year to win and this year it is incredible. It was just so different.”
“Everything she was hitting was going within a couple of inches of the line. I generally couldn’t do much about that. She was hitting some great shots.
“I was just trying to contain it and I knew if I made 90% right decisions, I didn’t have to be perfect. I was capable of getting that last point. The last point is the hardest to get of the whole match.”
“I feel a massive mixture of happiness, relief, emotional, all sorts of things are happening now and I’ll deconstruct it and reflect a bit later on – I’m a bit of a mess right now,” Gilmour said. “It’s quite embarrassing crying on the podium but I think it shows how much this means for me.”
Gilmour later took to Twitter to thank her Scots fans, posting: “Like what!? Today has been epic. Thank you for everyone who made the effort to come and support me. Always so appreciated.”
Everyone at NorDan is delighted for Kirsty and we’re proud to sponsor and support such an inspirational athlete throughout this fantastic period of her career!
