Movember Fundraising with the Aberdeen Team

Eight members of the NorDan Aberdeen team decided to take part in Movember this year, raising money for a fantastic cause.

Every year, men around the globe take part in the Movember movement, dubbing themselves “MoBros”. If you have yet to meet a MoBro, the goal of Movember is to raise money for and awareness about men’s health issues, particularly prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and suicide.

The statistics are quite staggering:

  • Globally, men die on average six years earlier than women, and for reasons that are largely preventable.
  • Testicular cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in young men in the UK.
  • Globally, more than 1.3 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year.
  • An average of 60 men commit suicide every hour.

In order to participate, men will shave their moustache at the start of the month and then let it grow out for the remainder, fundraising all the while. Some men give themselves additional challenges as well, all aimed at fundraising for the cause.

This year, the NorDan Aberdeen team decided to take part with 8 of our team members growing some fantastic ‘staches. With November wrapped up, we’re very proud of this group that raised a staggering £800 for a fantastic cause.

Movember 2020

While they can now shave their moustaches and return to their usual facial hair status, the fight against these illnesses continues. We want to encourage our fellow man to speak to and support one another. Stronger social connections can reduce the risk of suicide.

Thank you to everyone who donated and promoted our team’s fundraising efforts, particularly in what has been a challenging year for so many.

The Movember movement started in 2003 and since then has funded over 1,250 men’s health projects around the world. Find out more at https://uk.movember.com/.
